ABOUT

Proprietor and impresario, Kevin Beauchamp, launched the Katalyst Entertainment label after he left PolyGram Records, where he worked with a wide range of records, and after having over thirty years of music industry experience. From first working at The Art Ensemble of Chicago as a roadie and office assistant, to working under Jazz percussionist Famoudou Don Moye, to becoming more active with musicians and given credit for records produced, Kevin has evolved his style which comes to life today. His style exemplifies his journey through the independent music scene, DJ’ing, jazz, R&B, and hip hop.

INITIAL WORK & RECORDS

A 1993 compilation called “Welcome to the World of Chicago Hip Hop” featuring five different groups with five different styles from around the city. Most of the lyrics were delivered by Shahid Mustafa and tracks were done by Chris Underwood. Main Frame was a group that brought together some of the powerhouses of the hip hop scene at the time.

R&B duo concept featuring the vocals of Shawn Mason and the production of Keith Howell (K Fresh). The song “How Ya Livin” has a timeless quality to it and was released as a single with another song called “Serenade”.

“Her, Her Her, and You” by Main Frame was a single from a group making a name for themselves in Hip Hop. A video was produced on an independent music channel and it also had radio and club play, and live shows. Many have said the song has similarities to “Girls, Girls” by Jay Z and that Kanye may have gotten inspiration from it for that song.

MUSIC GALLERY

A new music gallery and coffee lounge by Katalyst begins in 2020.

Kevin brought his music gallery and coffee shop concept to life in 2020 so residents would have a place to listen to albums together while enjoying coffee.

Music events are held on a monthly basis.
